Observe the IGN poll to the right. You'll notice rather quickly, that it's stupid. There's nothing immediately significant about that, as all website polls are stupid, but this one is special. The worst thing about it is that among its choices, there is no option for "BLOW IT OUT YOUR PASTY WHITE ASS, YOU SLACKER-ASS WANNABE HONKY CUNT/FUCK."
Adventure games are back! One could argue that this was true when the new Sam & Max episodes were released, but I think that some new faces were needed to confirm that the point-'n'-clicker was ready for a return. Strong Bad's Cool Game for Attractive People Episode 1: Homestar Ruiner resuscitates the genre with personality, color, and great music, and without a hint of seriousness, ambition, or "hardcore" attitude. It's a reason to celebrate.
This week we devote the episode to playing Strong Bad's Cool Game For Awesome People Episode 1: Homestar Ruiner. Can you guess which member of the team doesn't play point and click adventures?
MOTHERFUCKIN SPACE GIRAFFE BITCHES! - Xbox LIVE Arcade - 2007
If you are able, you must try Space Giraffe. It is imperative that you do. Space Giraffe is something so brilliant and so weird that most people hate it and so you must play it because you are promised a strong reaction, one way or another. Video games of this sort don’t come along every day.
Metal Gear 2! The lost Metal Gear finally come to America! As a bit of a Metal Gear fanboy,I was so very looking forward to playing this game. That was a mistake. .
Episodic content in gaming has started to pop up more recently in the past year with the advent of digital distribution services (Steam, iTunes, Xbox LIVE), and with the steady rise to cost of development, this method has proven successful for the most part, but not without its share of flops. One of the main advantages of this model is the very low cost to developers, along with the decreased risk for us consumers who constantly shell out money for what’s on average, a $60 8 hour game. It’s simple, effective, and becoming the new hot thing next to achievements.
This game is just a blast to play. You play the role of “Solid” Snake, a novice badass. You start out unarmed and outgunned, so sneaking is the order of the day. It is up to you to procure not just weapons but a variety of special items. It is just like the NES one, only different and better!
So tonight, after a few days absence from my games room, I decided to play some of the excellent Battlefield: Bad Company game on PS3, but the PS3 had to be updated from firmware 2.41 to 2.42. An hour later I'm on 40%. So I'm writing a blog about it.
This game was like nothing else when it first hit. A game that emphasized sneaking and discouraged shooting enemies? That's brilliant awesome. There should be a million games like it.
ClivePwned has posted quite a few and I must say I agree with him in most areas, such as Too Human, which is in fact Too Shit. Soul Calibur 4 is a definite for me; it is by far the best fighting game. He has missed out some real goodies though:
Well, it's August 2008. We've already had Burnout Paradise, Devil May Cry 4, Metal Gear Solid 4, Smash Bros, Mario Kart, GTA IV, Wii Fit, Ninja Gaiden II, Sid Meier on console and a Battlefield game. There'll be the traditional late year glut of big games and games that want to be big. But can we expect in the meantime?
This week, our topic is whinging developers - games made by people who went on to complain about…well, everything. We play Space Giraffe, N+ and Too Human!
Knight Rider - Nintendo Entertainment System - 1989
Video Games based on licensed properties are oftentimes half-assed, crap on a stick shovelware. So, when playing a 20 year old video game based on a goofy television show about a talking car, expectations run low. Real low.
